More than £175m has been gambled in Blackpool on betting machines alone over the past year, latest figures from the Campaign for Fairer Gambling have revealed.
According to a report from the Blackpool Gazette, the statistics were released by the campaign group in support of their plea to bring in tougher regulations on fixed-odds betting terminals.
Addiction to gambling has rocketed in recent years. In 2013, the figure for Blackpool was £163m. There are 44 betting shops across Blackpool, which compulsive gamblers have described as ‘ridiculously addictive’.
