After months of prayer, planning and preparation, the Globe Church held its first public meeting in Southwark, London, on Sunday 20 September.
Led by Jonty Allcock, the Globe hopes to reach the diverse area of the South Bank. Some 120 people gathered for the first service and Mr Allcock preached from Romans 5:8, explaining that everyone needs to hear the same message.
After the first service, he said: ‘I got a real sense of the gospel potential in this area of London. There were the young professionals who have just arrived to start out on their careers. There was the man from the next-door council estate who was in a good mood because he had just collected his winnings from the betting shop. There was a group of students from various institutions who were excited about getting involved in a new church starting up’.
Mr Allcock previously planted Bush Hill Park Community Church in North London. The Globe Church is one of four recognised FIEC church plants that started meeting in September. The other three are Silver Street Community Church, in Edmonton, London; Emmanuel Marlborough, Wiltshire; and Christ Church, Longbridge.
