Christians across the UK have a responsibility to encourage and pray for their young people in this work. But church leaders must also teach about mission and help raise awareness among the young people.
Leech says this must be a priority, explaining, ‘Pastors need to demonstrate by their own attitudes and teaching that mission matters, and encourage youth to read mission magazines and prayer letters, and investigate web sites; or send them to conferences focusing on mission’.
According to Austin, ‘We believe churches should continue to inform young people of the plight of some of the poorest and most vulnerable people; and to stay up-to-date with resources that communicate how they can respond and take action’.
Haynes added, ‘Churches should do more missions teaching and take young people on short-term exposure trips, reaching out to nations and people of other ethnicities close to where they live’.
So, what are we waiting for? Let’s make the rest of this year one of mission: teaching, training, praying, supporting, encouraging and evangelising. And may the Lord add to churches across the world, daily, those who are being saved (Acts 2:47).
