An American Christian skier celebrated a gold medal at the Winter Olympics in the men’s freestyle skiing, halfpipe competition, but said he felt called to be a minister.
According to a report from the Christian Institute, 23-year-old David Wise, who is married and has a two-year-old daughter, was already the world champion going into the event in Sochi.
He claimed that he endeavours to perform as an athlete in competitions with the same demeanour and character as ‘in church on Sundays’.
He told an interview with NBC news that, when he is not in training, he and his wife work with young people, and he felt that he might be called to be a pastor at some point.
According to the Christian Institute, he told the American news channel, ‘If that’s the way it works out, or if that’s God’s plan for my life, then that’s something I’d be totally okay with, but if not, then I’ll do whatever else comes’.
