Parliamentarians, including former Chancellor Lord Lawson, have pushed the UK government to recognise marriage in the UK’s tax system.

Speaking in the Palace of Westminster, Lord Lawson drew people’s attention to a recent review of independent taxation from charity CARE, and said it was shameful that the UK tax system fails to have any regard for family responsibility.

According to CARE’s report, only the UK and Mexico, out of all developed countries, do not give married couples tax breaks.
