East Midlands Churches Day
On Saturday 16 June, East Midlands Churches Day (EMCD) played host to ‘the best finger-licking hog roast’, a Christian bookstall, a testimony from a converted former trainee Catholic priest and a seminar session on ‘Union with Christ’.
The EMCD was held at Brockington College on the outskirts of Leicester. It is organised through the East Midlands Evangelical Ministers’ Fraternal, with churches from Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Rutland, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire.
Over several years this has proved to be a first-class day out for all the family, and this year proved to be no exception. This year’s main speaker was Dr Robert Letham of WEST, who took us carefully through the ‘four distinct voices’ that we hear in Psalm 2.
Setting out his material in the immediate historical context, but showing us how this wonderful psalm speaks volumes to our situation today, it was a memorable message. We were encouraged to see Christ as King of kings and Lord of all history.
Dr Letham also led the afternoon seminar, drawing us out in discussion and interaction on the glories of the Christian’s position ‘in Christ’.
With our corporate standing as the church of Jesus Christ in mind, as well as our individual relationship with the Lord, Dr Letham guided us through Scripture to see the solidity of our assurance and our great hope in death.
The younger generation were catered for fully, with activities and Bible-teaching for various ages. Five-a-side football, a table tennis tournament, exhibition stands by Christian organisations and an excellent venue all made for a full day of interest for around 250 who attended from some 27 churches, from all over the East Midlands.
Next year’s EMCD will be on 22 June and the speaker will be Roger Carswell. Contact Rev. Peter Rush for more information on [email protected]
