A new poster-child for Christian values has emerged from an unlikely source — the bench of the Denver Broncos.
Nicknamed ‘God’s quarterback’, the young American football player, Tim Tebow, drops to one knee and prays publicly before each game.
Jeers turned to respect, however, when the underdog football team started winning matches that nobody expected the Broncos to win; and Mr Tebow moved to the front pages of the newspapers.
According to a Daily Telegraph report, Mr Tebow attributes the team’s run of success to God, and has come out as a pro-lifer and a virgin.
One sports writer in the New York Times claimed the wins are nothing if not miraculous. He wrote: ‘Can God take credit for the victories of a thick-set NFL quarterback who scrambles in a weirdly jittery fashion, throws one of the ugliest balls in the game, completes fewer than half of his passes and has somehow won six of his team’s last seven games?’
