A special family night was held at Oulton Broad Free Presbyterian Church on 16 December to mark the end of its latest Kidz Klub series. This was about the famous words of the Lord Jesus known as the ‘Beatitudes’.
Nearly 30 children took part, performing a selection of songs that included ‘Count your blessings’, ‘Follow, follow’, ‘I am so glad’, ‘Jesus loves the little children’, ‘Calypso carol’ and ‘Away in a manger’.
The congregation of family and friends also joined in the singing of ‘O come, all ye faithful’, ‘Once in royal David’s city’ and ‘Hark! The herald angels sing’.
It was most encouraging that 15 of the youngsters were able to recite from memory all of Matthew 5:3-10, for which certificates were presented, with a few of the older ones going up to verse 12. Many had also coloured in their Beatitudes booklets over the previous eight weeks.
As well as a summary of the meaning of the Beatitudes, a gospel talk was given on the theme ‘Jesus is not just for Christmas’, using the words of Matthew 1:21 and Hebrews 13:8. Christ came to give us, by grace, the blessings and characteristics described in the Beatitudes.
