Last dance

A long running battle between the people of Bedfordand a nightclub has ended, with the local council denying the nightclub the right to allow lap dancing at its venue.

According to the Christian Legal Centre (CLC), Bedford council threw out an application made on behalf of the ‘Saints and sinners’ nightclub to host lap dancing.

Local business owners and residents, supported by the CLC, argued that such a venue was not suitable in an area where there were schools, churches and homes. More than 1000 letters of objection were received by the Council in advance of the hearing.

A CLC statement read, ‘This is a great result for the people of Bedfordand we are very encouraged by the council’s decision. It is possible to successfully challenge lap dancing licences, and councils are increasingly aware of the real risks of allowing sex clubs to operate in city centres’.
