Abortion counselling

November 2011

Liberal Democrat voters are the strongest supporters of independent abortion counselling, a poll from ComRes has found.

The news, which comes shortly after an amendment from Nadine Dorris MP pushing for independent abortion advice to be promoted, showed 84 per cent of those voting for the LibDems in the 2010 election agreed with independent counselling.

They accepted the statement that a woman should have a right to independent counselling, when considering an abortion, from a source that has no financial interest in her decision.

Some 73 per cent indicated they would like their MP to vote for abortion counselling changes, while 78 per cent of the total British public supported the view that counselling should be independent and provided by a source that has no financial interest in the outcome of a woman’s decision.
