Christian Books Worldwide

Christian Books Worldwide (CBW) has supplied its first Bible commentaries in Swahili, in collaboration with the Banner of Truth. There are 120 million estimated speakers of Swahili across central Africa.

Translated by Pastor Sukesh Pabari and his team in Nairobi, the books are J. C. Ryle’s Expository thoughts on the Gospels – Mark, Matthew, and then John. It is hoped that Luke will be ready soon.

CBW has also supplied thousands of copies of John Blanchard’s Jesus – dead or alive in the Malayalam language, for the south of India. It plans to follow this soon with 11,000 copies of Ultimate questions in Urdu for Pakistan and the UK, and 5000 copies of Ultimate questions in Amharic for Ethiopia.

Meanwhile, Sukesh Pabari who is a pastor in Kawangware, the biggest slum area in Nairobi, recently visited Britain and gave a report at the Pastors Training International conference at High Leigh.

In less than two years, in collaboration with CBW, his team of translators has produced nine books in Swahili. He is also producing small booklets for local pastor training. Through the network of pastors he is working with, good theological books are spreading through Kenya and Tanzania.

According to CBW, the orders have come in so thick and fast that reprints will be needed. Pastors in Mombasa, who received the first batch of books, called them ‘weapons of mass construction’! We praise God for this reception of truth, and trust that he will use these books to help build his church in East Africa.

Editor’s note: Since receiving this report, we have learned that there was a serious fire in the Kawangware church buildings on 19 December. Much literature and other items valuable for this work were destroyed.
