UK women convert to Islam

White women are leading the number of UK people joining Islam, according to a Faith Matters report.

The report’s findings, published in the Daily Mail, show that the number of UK converts rose from 60,000 in 2000 to 100,000 in 2010.

In 2010, an estimated 5,200 people in the UK adopted Islam in the last year alone, including the high-profile case of Lauren Booth, sister-in-law of former prime minister Tony Blair.

According to the Daily Mail, a survey conducted by Kevin Brice of Swansea University of 122 converts, showed that 56 per cent were white British, with women making up 62 per cent of respondents. The average age at conversion was just over 27.
