Truthful, varied and bold!

What words would you use to summarise the characteristics of biblical preaching? These were the three words that Stuart Olyott, an experienced Bible expositor, chose as the basis of his sessions at a ‘Handling the Word’ day conference in Leicester on 25 November.

Organised by United Beach Missions, the aim of the day was to provide training for both preaching in the pulpit and preaching on the pavement. Despite the snow, 100 people arrived, eagerly anticipating learning from someone whose ministry has blessed countless people over the years. They were not disappointed!

As well as Stuart’s talks on aspects of preaching, Mike Mellor, pastor for evangelism at Moordown Baptist Church, Bournemouth, took two sessions on ‘Reasoned answers to reasonable questions’. Using his many years of experience doing open air preaching, Mike gave some very helpful advice and also addressed some of the common questions that non-Christians ask.

As the delegates left and faced the cold and snow again, they were encouraged and helped in the great task of preaching God’s Word.

Recordings of talks and notes from Stuart Olyott’s sessions are freely available from www.ubmreunion.org.uk
