About 90 children attended the Hayes Lane Soccer School from 26-30 July in Bromley, where they heard the message of salvation through the life of Jonah.
At the school, the children looked at the fundamental skills of football such as passing, dribbling, shooting and control. The Bible time material was titled ‘The ultimate goal’ and based on the story of Jonah.
The memory verse was taken from Jonah 2:7-9: ‘When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you Lord, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple. Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs. But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the Lord’.
The great majority of the children were from non-Christian backgrounds. Hayes Lane Baptist Church has contact with them, mainly through the schools’ work its member David Hollman does for Ambassadors in Sport around Bromley, as well as through its church youth groups.
The church advertised through leaflets in all the schools and churches in Bromley. By the end of the week, 40 young people expressed a desire to find out more about the gospel.
