Farewell at Hayes Town

Hayes Town Chapel bade farewell and God speed to its assistant pastor Joseph Pettitt and his wife Louise after Mr Pettitt was appointed to take up the pastorate at Holywell Free Church in Loughborough.

Mr Pettitt had been a member of the church at Alexandra Road, Hemel Hempstead, and taught economics at Watford Boys’ Grammar School for six years. He felt called to the Christian ministry and studied at London Theological Seminary for two years. In August 2007, he started at Hayes Town Chapel, Middlesex.

During his two and a half years there, he was deeply involved in preaching, pastoral work, youth activities and church administration. He also met and married Louise Philpott, whose parents are members of the church.

At a short farewell ceremony, Joseph and Louise were presented with Christian books, flowers and a card, together with a cheque from the church and congregation. More than 70 friends stayed to a fellowship meal.

Holywell Free Church was founded 41 years ago on a housing estate. It was the only Christian witness at the time, meeting in rented accommodation for several years. The church now has a fine building of its own.
