All change at Greenwich

It was with thankfulness to God that the church at Devonshire Drive, Greenwich, met on Saturday 10 October for the induction of Jonathan Gravil as the new pastor. As former pastor Bill Gardner and his wife Maureen retired from their work of the last 18 years, the Lord led Jonathan and Elizabeth Gravil to us.

Pastor Gravil has a great desire to evangelise, especially to reach students at Greenwich University; and already the church is seeing young people of various nationalities at its services.

The induction service was led by Pastor Phil Roberts from Hartshill Bible Church, where the couple had been members and Jonathan assistant pastor.

Devonshire Drive was pleased to welcome visitors from nearby associated churches as well as those from further afield, and the church was filled to capacity – not to mention the car park!

Norman Clarkson spoke for the church, as he briefly outlined the steps which led to the call to the pastorate. Then, Phil Roberts conducted the induction with a series of questions and answers for Jonathan, Elizabeth and Greenwich church members.

Bill Gardner stressed from experience the value of fellowship with other churches and pastors in our area. Pastor Howard Mason from Stoke on Trent, who had encouraged Jonathan to develop his preaching gifts, spoke helpfully from Colossians 1:21-29. The afternoon ended with tea, giving further opportunities for fellowship.
