Christ in Christmas
People in Britain want to keep Christ in Christmas, according to a poll by theology think-tank Theos.
The survey, of more than 1000 adults in the UK, revealed that 85 per cent of the population believed that Christmas should be a Christian affair.
In response to the question by pollsters ComRes, who were commissioned to produce the survey, 84 per cent disagreed with the statement: ‘Christmas should be re-named to reflect our multi-cultural society’.
Indeed, 85 per cent agreed that ‘Christmas should be called Christmas because we are still a Christian country’. Nick Spencer, director of studies at Theos, said that there was ‘enormous and genuine affection for both the Christian festival of Christmas, and the values underpinning it’.
