Dawkins diatribe

Richard Dawkins, the erstwhile evolutionary professor-turned atheist preacher, has laid into faith schools, calling them ‘evil’.

Leaving aside philosophical questions as to whether a man who claims there is no God can understand the true definition of evil, he claimed that faith schools were an act of child abuse as they rid children of freedom.

Speaking at a fringe meeting at the Liberal Democrat conference in Bournemouth, sponsored by the British Humanist Association, he railed that it was not acceptable to indoctrinate children.

Even though faith schools account for some of the highest academic grades in the country, Dawkins said: ‘I’m in favour of children learning about religion and its role in history. What I’m passionately against is indoctrination. That is wicked, that is evil, that is child abuse’.

Dawkins was promoting his latest book: The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution. It will no doubt be used by humanist teachers to indoctrinate children into accepting evolutionary theory in schools.

The Evangelical Movement of Wales has published an education special issue in its Evangelical Magazine for September/October, which looks at the debate between state schools and Christian establishments.
