Abortion pills online
The internet is being used by women across the UK to buy abortion pills online, according to the news station Real Radio.
Abortion pills are only available legally through licensed and trained staff in England, Scotland and Wales, while they are banned in Ireland. But the reporter found that such pills could be bought online and delivered to your door for as little as £35.
Nearly 200,000 abortions are carried out in Britain each year, but medical staff are concerned that these abortion pills could become little more than another ‘form of contraception’, used by women without proper advice, medical support or counselling. One leading doctor in the north-west of England said this could put mothers’ lives and health at risk, not to mention the psychological ramifications.
According to the Real Radio report, pro-choice campaign spokesperson Kate Smirthwate said that buying these online was a way of making things less complicated for the mother. However, pro-life lobbyists believe this is just another ‘easy’ route to decide to end an unborn baby’s life, and one that carries huge medical risks.
The news follows a CNN report into women in America and Canada resorting to online sites to escape state laws on abortion, many of which were selling misoprostol, one of the drugs used in abortion pills. But ET has discovered that several sites are actually selling fake medicine, cashing in on women’s fears. This has also led to physical problems for mothers and their unborn children.
