Blow to bloggers

Bloggers are at risk of having their secret identities revealed, after the High Court in London ruled that they have no right to privacy under British law.

The decision came after a court case brought by theTimes newspaper against a police officer whose blog on crime-fighting in the UK became so famous that Times’ reporters uncovered his real identity.

Stating that blogging is a public publishing medium, the High Court said that any blogger could be unmasked by any interested party, and upheld theTimes’ decision to unmask the identity of the award-winning blog author.

This development could be significant for thousands of Christians who use blogs to discuss Christian views on such issues as abortion or homosexuality. Bloggers could find their expression of biblical views held against them by employers or other groups and individuals.
