Christians increase vote in EU election

The Christian Party and Christian People’s Alliance increased their share of the vote to come eighth in the European Parliament election.

The parties, who fielded joint candidate lists, received a total of 249,493 votes, or 1.6 per cent of votes cast. In London, the Christian parties picked up 51,336 votes – 2.9 per cent of the vote – up on the 45,038 gained in 2004.

It was the first time a Christian party was represented in every region of the UK. ‘The challenge is to build on our result and make ourselves known’, said federal executive member Dr Tom Rogers.

‘We do not despise the day of small beginnings and look to our fellows across Europe who have succeeding in returning Christian MEPs to the Parliament’, he added.
