Urban ministry

International Christian College (ICC) in Glasgow has announced the appointment of Dr Wesley White as programme leader for an MTh in ‘Ministry in an urban world’. The programme is designed for master’s level study in urban ministry for those who remain in their ministries.

Dr David Smith, who originally ministered in Cambridge and Nigeria, has developed the course. He hands over his role in April. The programme was developed in partnership with such groups working in urban contexts as London City Mission, European Christian Mission, Scripture Union International and representatives from the Church of Scotland.

Wes White has experience of urban ministry on three continents and will also continue working with the Mosaic Community, a church-planting project in Glasgow’s West End.

This MTh, validated by the University of Aberdeen, is ‘designed to enable experienced urban ministry practitioners to engage in a supervised process of critical reflection on their work in its urban context’.

The programme is structured around four residencies over two years – in Glasgow, Berlin and an African city, setting studies within both local and global urban contexts. The third year involves ‘a research project related to students’ own ministries and containing concrete proposals for change and transformation’.

Students currently on the programme come from the UK, Europe, Africa and Asia. Intakes are every two years, the next one being in April 2010. ICC was formed in 1998 through the merger of Glasgow and Northumbria Bible Colleges; further information from Julie Green (0141 552 4040 or [email protected]).
