The dawn of heaven breaks

Sharon James

Evangelical Press

164 pages; £8.95; ISBN: 978-085234-641-9

How often do you think about heaven? Eternity is an enduring reality for the believer but, because we love life and our earthly existence, we seldom take time to meditate on heaven. Yet we must! This book by Sharon James helps us anticipate eternity and encourages us to tune our hearts to that blessed hope we have in Christ Jesus – for the present and the future.

The book is divided into chapters with headings such as Anticipating heaven; Times of illness and pain; Aging; Facing death; and, Then eternity.

Each chapter is a selection containing: well-loved hymns (many penned in the contemplation of heaven); Bible verses (most of these having become dear to our hearts during our Christian walk); and extracts from the writings of godly men and women past and present.

The mix is excellent and well balanced, with much to encourage us to seek all that is promised to the believer in this life and the ‘blessed hope of the coming of the dawn’.

Certainly there is great comfort to be found here for those who are nearing the end of an earthly life, but this is a book for all who are found in Christ. We should – and indeed must – contemplate heaven, ‘where glory, glory dwelleth, in Immanuel’s land’.
