Hoylake Evangelical Church
The service was led by church elder Carson Kinnaird, who later conducted the act of induction. Church secretary John Davies gave a history of Ray’s call and, in reply, Ray gave his testimony.
Ray Trainer was brought up on Merseyside and converted as a young teenager. He embraced the reformed faith and as a young man joined Emmanuel Church, Leamington Spa.
He then gained experience in Bible teaching at Emmanuel and also in the USA, where he spent three years. Ray eventually became an elder at Emmanuel and for several years gained further experience in preaching and teaching as assistant pastor to Bill James. Ray is married to Sharon and they have four children.
Pastor Bill James (Emmanuel) gave the charge to Hoylake’s new pastor and the church, from 2 Corinthians 4:1-6. He exhorted the church to support the work of the gospel through prayer and by Christian living.
He reminded us that the Lord’s work is too hard for us in our own strength. We must rely upon the Lord’s strength, given through the Holy Spirit.
At the end of the service a large bouquet of flowers was presented to Sharon, and the children were presented with appropriate gifts. Following the final hymn ‘Go labour on, spend and be spent’, the congregation enjoyed fellowship over refreshments ably provided by the ladies of the church.
