I was 23 when I was converted. I had no Christian background, nor had I ever heard the gospel before. I did, however, know a lot about humanism, hedonism and agnosticism.
At the time of my conversion I was living with drug dealers and had lost all hope in everything. There was absolutely no point to anything – I was a true relativist. I also despised myself.
However, as God would have it, I heard Pastor Dickie preach at a business conference I was attending. He preached from the book of Job on, ‘Where can I find a righteousness greater than my own?’
It was then that I first saw my Saviour and knew his name was Jesus Christ. The truth of what I was hearing thundered through my soul and changed me irrevocably. I began to seek out Pastor Dickie as often as I could – I had so many questions about my Lord.
He took the time to explain to me the meaning of sovereign grace and election. He told me about the work of the Holy Spirit in giving me spiritual new life. I knew at once that these things were true, because I had been shown how desperately sinful I was – and how powerless to change my ways, even though I truly tried my best.
Since being converted three years ago, I have learned of the fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience…) and have grown in the knowledge of my Lord.
I was working for Verizon wireless for the last three years and now am working full time at Berean Baptist Church. I am the Lord’s bondservant and moment by moment seek his mercy and to share his gifts to me with my neighbours.
