HRH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, gave the royal seal of approval to Scripture Union, as he officially opened its new office on 27 April 2017. Prince Edward, whose wife Sophie has been open about her Christian faith, visited the new office in Milton Keynes for the unveiling.
‘Christ’s love is relevant today and is relevant for all’, said Tim Hastie-Smith, national director of Scripture Union, in his welcoming address to Prince Edward. ‘I am delighted the move has been a positive one for what you are trying to do’, the prince told those assembled, before expressing his best wishes for Scripture Union as it celebrates its 150th anniversary this year.
As part of its anniversary year, Scripture Union has launched its ‘95’ campaign, which is seeking to reach the 95 per cent of children and young people who do not attend any church in the UK. It has also declared a special day of prayer for its mission and for the UK on 2 June, as the organisation celebrates the anniversary of the very first SU ministry gathering.
