Media – ‘Quote Jesus’

July 2017

Bus advertising campaign ‘Quote Jesus’, which aims to get advertising on the side of London buses, has gained momentum.

According to the campaigners, new figures suggest the adverts have been seen by 6.5 million people in the first three months of the campaign. This is more than double the number of regular churchgoers in the UK.

Howard Conder, businessman and founder of Revelation TV, who spearheaded the campaign, said, ‘Given that less than a million people attend Church of England services each week, the Anglican Church would be better putting its money into advertising to reach people with the message of Jesus.

The Quote Jesus bus campaign, which included quotes of Jesus, such as ‘Blessed are the peacemakers’, ‘In my Father’s house there are many mansions’ and ‘I am the way, the truth and the life’, is appearing on Routemaster buses in and around London and  the South East, and is designed to convey ‘hope’ to those who see them.

According to the campaign team, the adverts have been welcomed by some members of the general public, who said, ‘It brings hope’, after seeing the words of Jesus on buses.

However, others reacted angrily saying ‘the timing of the campaign so soon after the Westminster attacks was insensitive’ and the campaign should include ‘quotes from other religions’ to reflect London’s diversity.

The driver of the bus was asked by Evangelical Times whether he had received any comments from passengers about the advert on the bus. He told us, ‘What advert? Oh, that. Um. I never read what’s on the side of the bus, to be honest’. Saying this, he read the advert for the first time. ‘I’ve not had any comments about it’, he added. ET wasn’t able to follow this up because the drivers behind him were honking at him. Pray that this encounter might lead to something greater in his life.
