Christ Church Fetcham (CCF) has been a Christian witness to the small village of Fetcham near Leatherhead in Surrey for over 20 years. Last September their second pastor, Ian Fry, moved on to Oxford to take up a new role in St Ebbe’s under Vaughan Roberts.
CCF is looking for a pastor, but the Lord has provided for the moment in a wonderful way. Some members were visiting friends last spring in South Africa. During their visit, they learned that Pastor Harry Davies was intending to retire at the end of the year and would be happy to come to Britain for a while and look after a church, where they were looking to appoint a full-time pastor.
In August last year, Mr Davies and his wife Catherine were visiting their son in the UK and, given that CCF by then knew of the impending departure of their pastor, the wonderful provision of a stand-in became all too advantageous.
A number of meetings were arranged quickly and the church quickly saw the Lord’s providing hand. Mr and Mrs Davies indicated they could come across in early January.
However, Fetcham is in the expensive south and accommodation would have to be rented for them. Yet how wonderful is our gracious Father! Later that week a neighbour of one of the elders emailed around asking if they knew of anyone able to house-sit for up to a year — free accommodation for a year!
CCF is now enjoying the ministry of a mature pastor, while looking to the Lord for the next steps in his leading. Praise God, from whom all blessings flow. The fellowship also witnessed by hosting a church stand at the Fetcham Festival on Saturday 10 June.
