On Saturday 9 September, more than 150 people gathered for the induction of Peter Sherwood as evangelist at Welcome Hall Evangelical Church (WHEC), Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. The weekend also marked the church’s 78th anniversary and 5th anniversary of Jeremy Brooks’ pastorate.
Speaking on behalf of WHEC, Pastor Brooks explained how the elders had been seeking the Lord’s will over the appointment of a second full-time worker for more than a year, and were increasingly convinced the role should be that of an evangelist. In March, Peter Sherwood was put in touch with Pastor Brooks by a mutual contact and was called by WHEC in July.
Peter Sherwood grew up in Kidderminster. From the time of his conversion in his late twenties Peter has known the Lord’s call to share the gospel with others. Most recently, this has involved work with Birmingham City Mission, after theological training from the Midlands Ministry Training Course, run by the Midlands Gospel Partnership.
Stephen Dancer from Solihull Presbyterian Church gave the charge to the evangelist, speaking from Hebrews 12:1-3, with an encouragement to endurance in the light of Christ’s example.
Paul Mallard of Widcombe Baptist Church, Bath, gave the charge to the church from John 20:19-23, speaking of the foundation, model, power and urgency of mission.
Please pray for Peter and his wife Emma as they settle in at WHEC, and for the ongoing evangelism of the fellowship.
