London’s Natural History Museum is working on a project to scan and recreate in 3D fragile fossils brought back on The Beagle.

The aim of the project is to recreate Charles Darwin’s fossil collection in such detail it can be studied by scientists as well as the general public.

The findings will be uploaded and go online to provide an accessible record. The first to go online is the skull of Toxodon platensis, identified as a distant relative of a rhinoceros.
