Gambling fine is ‘small change’, claims CARE

September 2019

Ladbrokes Coral’s £5.9m fine for failing anti-money laundering measures is ‘small change’ to a major bookie, Christian advocacy group CARE has claimed.

Last month, the betting company was hit with the fine over failures to adequately protect vulnerable gamblers and for failing anti-money laundering measures.

However, James Mildred, communications manager for CARE, commented, ‘The failure of one of the UK’s biggest gambling firms to protect vulnerable customers is a shocking reminder of how much still needs to be done to hold the gambling industry to account.

‘It is absolutely right that Ladbrokes Coral is fined, but £5.9m is loose change to a major bookie and so it remains to be seen whether lessons will in fact be learned’.
