On Saturday 5 October, a packed congregation witnessed the induction of Paul Whiteley as pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Cardiff.

Paul Whiteley had previously been the pastor of Penyrheol Evangelical Church, near Swansea.

A history of the call to the pastorate was given, emphasising how God had graciously kept the church over four years without a pastor. Over a period of months, God then brought the church and Paul together.

The members gave a unanimous call to Paul in June 2019 which he graciously accepted.

Rev. Peter Milsom chaired the occasion and led the induction along with Glyn Ellis and Steve Baston, elders of the church.

Pastor Steff Jones (from Pontardawe) preached from Acts 8, showing how the church and the new pastor could, and should, learn from Philip the Evangelist. Emphasis was placed on having godly character more than gifts and talents. Philip’s character was seen as he was filled with the Holy Spirit, showing wisdom, humbly working for the Lord and listening to God’s word with commitment to making Jesus Christ known. Pastor Jones urged the members and the new pastor to live out these characteristics.

Paul Whitley closed the meeting in prayer, followed by an enjoyable time of fellowship and a lovely tea.
