Thousands of Christians in the UK joined forces with fellow believers around the world to cancel their Netflix subscriptions over a blasphemous Brazilian film which was streamed on the site over Christmas.
Called ‘The First Temptation of Christ’, the so-called ‘comedy’ film insinuated Jesus had homosexual relations.
More than 2.5 million people signed a Portuguese petition and a further 280,000 signed various English-language petitions to ask Netflix creators to dump the film.
However, Netflix and the group creating the film defended the production. Feelings were so heated in Brazil that a petrol bomb attack was made against the filmmakers’ headquarters in Rio de Janeiro on Christmas Eve.
