A SASRA Scripture Reader based at MOD Lyneham, Wiltshire has received an official commendation for his Christian outreach work among servicemen and women.

Army Scripture Reader Tiaan de Klerk, originally from South Africa but moving to England in 1999, was awarded the citation by Colonel ERB Heal, Commandant of the Defence School of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering at MOD Lyneham.

Tiaan de Klerk was praised for over twelve years of service which largely goes unseen. He was hailed as ‘the constant bulwark of chaplaincy support to two large communities for well over a decade, helping to support and settle the community during its move from Bordon into Lyneham and allowing the commissioned chaplains the ability to do more by providing the assurance of professional chaplaincy support within Lyneham when they are out of station’.

He lives out the gospel in many practical ways, helping servicemen and women and their families at all hours while ‘setting the highest of professional and personal standards… [and] has selflessly and faithfully supported the mission of DSEME, the wider garrison and the church and is deserving of formal recognition for his dedicated service’.
