Medical professionals have warned about the damage transgender ideology is causing UK children in a recent video. In it, doctors and scientists give ‘a scientific and compassionate response’ to the transgender agenda.
Copies have been sent to schools and MPs. Although the producers, Truth in Science, and the contributors are Christians, the arguments are purely scientific. They contend that transgender ideology flies in the face of the biological and medical evidence.
Rather than engaging with the scientific arguments, those disagreeing with the content attacked the people involved. Academic members of the board of directors for Truth in Science were targeted, with pressure put upon their universities to forbid scientists like Prof. Andy McIntosh from declaring their university links when publicly associating with organisations like Truth in Science.
A frequent criticism of those with biblical views is that ‘no one academically reputable holds such views’. Freedom of speech is under attack when the clamour becomes ‘no one with those views can claim to be academically reputable!’
Sometimes Christians shy away from the transgender issue for fear of appearing polemical. Speaking out takes courage, as an aggressive trans-lobby intimidates many into silence for fear of losing their jobs. The video’s makers seek a caring response, focusing on the damage done to those affected, especially the young.
The video begins by noting that, following transgender surgery, people are 19 times more likely to die by suicide than the general population. It warns that ‘a troubling ideology is targeting our children that seeks to challenge the laws of nature with irreversible consequences’.
Dr Peter Saunders, chief executive of the International Christian Medical and Dental Association, warns of a ‘huge unregulated live experiment happening with children’, including some of the most vulnerable in society. He states: ‘Children who are gender conflicted also have a higher incidence of mental health problems like depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, substance abuse, personality disorders and there’s even an association with autism as well.’
Professor David Galloway, a past president of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow states that ‘sex is not assigned at birth, it is determined biologically at conception’. He says that it is ‘abusive and dangerous’ to use puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for a ‘very young child exhibiting some gender nonconformity or confusion’.
Dr Julie Maxwell, a community paediatrician, says that ‘children need protecting from this experimental treatment’. She argues: ‘We would not use a treatment that was not proven to be beneficial in any other circumstances, and yet we do in this circumstance. And that’s scary.’ Dr Maxwell says that with similar conditions like ‘anorexia or body dysmorphia we would not seek to alter a person’s body to fit with what they think or feel. We would always seek to help them to accept what they are.’
Truth in Science believe that gender dysphoria is based in the mind and should be treated accordingly, with patience and compassion for the individual. Their particular focus is to safeguard children from an ideology that is promoted through social media. They recognise that children are sometimes confused about their gender but believe the remedy is the natural process of puberty – not puberty blockers, lifelong sex hormones, and irreversible surgery.
Truth in Science are offering churches a free copy of the DVD and individuals may purchase it from their website: www.truthinscience.org.uk.
