Teen testimony -afraid to sleep

December 2006

I was born and brought up in a Christian family and I have been going to church since I was very young. When I was eight I asked God to forgive my sins because I didn’t want to go to hell, but nothing changed in my life.

Over the next few years I sat through the baptisms of five people who had trusted Christ – but I was blind to whether I myself was a Christian or not.

Then when I was fourteen I decided to go to the Bible study at our church because a friend was going to ask his mum if he could go. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed the evening and wanted to go again.

Then that Sunday I went to church as normal and the preacher said that non-Christians should be afraid to sleep – in case they died without getting right with God. That night I lay awake wondering whether I myself was right with God, because of how sinful I was.

I wanted to become a real Christian but I thought I needed to find out more. But the preacher’s words came back to me and I was afraid I wouldn’t wake up in the morning! So I decided there and then to ask God into my life and to forgive me for my sins.

I told my parents, my brother and everyone at church. My friend also became a Christian that week.

It is amazing how God can change a person’s life. I never used to pray but now I really enjoy talking to God, going to church and studying the Bible
