What Jesus means to me

I come from Hungary. I am 46 years old and married to Natalia. We have two sons, Daniel, who is 14 years old, and Dominic, who is 7. My parents live in Budapest.

I have been in the UK for 15 years, but still keep my Hungarian accent! As a young man I represented my country in many fencing championships, including European. I also competed in the Olympic Games of 1992 and 1996, when I came 4th and 5th. I was seven times Hungarian national champion in foil.

Confidence

Before I heard the message about Jesus, I was so tense and impatient. I didn’t know where I was heading in my life. I was constantly looking for my place in the future. Sometimes I was confused and depressed. Things got much worse when my family members passed away over a very short period.

I come from a different culture and country to the UK, and sometimes it is difficult to cope with the challenges and problems of life. Believing in Jesus makes everything much easier; he gives me strength and makes me calm.

His confidence helps me in all kinds of experience. Now I trust in God. Any time I am in trouble, I know he can help me. Jesus shows me the right direction.

Jesus Christ is the Saviour and only hope in the world. He’s completely perfect in his holy body and soul. He’s the Son of God, with the same authority and power as God. He came to this world to save us and sacrificed his life for us. Otherwise, we will obviously go to hell, because we are all sinners.

Jesus is a gift from God, and we can only escape God’s punishment if we believe in Jesus Christ totally. He gives us opportunity to change our life and repent.

In the beginning, we were made perfect and good by God. But we broke God’s law, so we have to face the consequences. Without Jesus we are already lost. If God did not care about his creatures, he would not have sent Jesus to save us.

Strength

My heart fully trusts in Jesus Christ. Without him, I can’t be the same person that I am now. I think I am a better person than I used to be.

I don’t know my future, but I’m sure Jesus will look after and protect me. Reading the Bible and listening to preaching is always a challenge — even in Hungarian it is complicated, and English is very hard for me! But every time I have heard the Word of God, I am more relaxed and balanced.

I fully trust in Jesus Christ. I have met lots of valuable people through him. Every Sunday I ‘recharge my battery in church’.

Everybody’s life has good and bad days; I want to be ready for both. As a fencer you need protection in a contest, and in my life Jesus Christ is my protector against the devil. He’s my protection for all challenges; without him I would be lost. He gives me strength, integrity and hope in this world.

I want to be part of the church, because I like the people in this community. I’m a sinner like everybody else, but I can live through Jesus the Saviour. That’s why I read the Bible every day, because I want to understand God’s Word better.
