This is an Islam ‘espresso’, perfect for the ‘I’ve-got-a-Muslim-colleague’ Christian on the go! (Also perfect for those revising for an RE exam, with two hours available.)

Patrick Sookhdeo concisely describes a religion poised to feature importantly in Europe’s 21st century. In rapid fashion, Mohammed’s life and the origins of Islam are sketched out. Basic Islamic theology and an overview of Qur’anic teachings are given. These usefully include Islam’s treatment of Christ.

Similarities, and the more crucial differences, between Islam and Christianity are explored. The Muslim’s fear-driven, works-based religious system is crisply presented. There is a frank and accurate portrayal of women in Islam.

No words wasted, Sookhdeo skims the centuries of Islamic history, marking the highlights and lowlights. Given the diversity of British Muslims, the different branches and expressions of Islam are helpfully explained. A compact glossary and interesting appendices add to the book’s value.

Although it doesn’t give any evangelistic strategy or witnessing suggestions, the book does give an adequate description of where our Muslim neighbours are coming from.

With this accurate knowledge, it is hoped Christians may avoid unnecessary stumbling blocks and more authoritatively share Christ with their Muslim friends.
