This is the first of three studies working through the book of Acts. Gerard Chrispin (Christian Prison Resources Ministries; United Beach Mission and Christian Answer; Day One author) brings his passion for the Word of God, along with his clear teaching and experience, to provide a helpful walk through the first nine chapters of Acts.
Those familiar with Chrispin’s Mark Time will find this new book set out in a familiar way. He takes bite-sized passages and gives clear explanations in a warm, easy-to-read style. Beginning with the Ascension and ending with Saul’s conversion, he examines the start of the early church, dwelling on principles that should shape every believer’s life.
Each chapter is only a few pages long, but the reader doesn’t feel short-changed on teaching. There are many practical questions throughout the book, inciting readers to consider their own attitudes towards God and others.
There is also continual encouragement to consider how we might serve Christ in reaching out with the gospel. Each chapter ends with three, multiple-point questions, based on the passage that has been considered.
In the first appendix there are pointers to help those leading group studies using the chapters. A website has been developed alongside this series (www.amazingacts.net). From the site, you can read as well as listen to the chapters being read by the author. Site visitors may also find other resources relevant to the series.
Additionally, there is a correspondence course available, which can be done by groups or individuals on request (details in appendix two of the book).
This book would be ideal for use among church youth groups or for individual study. It could also be used as a basis for church Bible study. Assuming the tone and teaching are of the same standard in the next two Amazing Acts titles, this series could be a great tool for those involved in youth work or discipleship classes.
