This is a beautifully produced book of rich devotional content. It contains a series of eleven messages, delivered by nine different speakers at a conference of the Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary.
Rarely does one find a book devoted entirely to God the Father, and this volume brings out something of the richness of this subject. Yet it should not be thought that it deals only with the Father. How can one separate the persons of the holy Trinity?
The essays are grouped under four main headings: seeing the Father’s glory in his only begotten Son (two messages); adoring the beautiful attributes of the Father (three messages); knowing God the Father as Saviour (two messages); resting in the Father’s loving hands (three messages). The conclusion contains one message devoted to the need for a Trinitarian piety.
The addresses are full of Scripture and also enriched with quotations from various Puritan authors. As they are by different authors, the style of writing varies, but this adds variety and interest to the overall theme.
As occasionally occurs in Reformed writings, the tension between the fact that no one can come to Christ unless the Father draw him and the practice of infant baptism appears, on page 86. Warmly recommended as devotional reading or as a group study book.
