Big bickering

August 2014

Scientists who claimed to have found trace patterns left by the Big Bang have had their findings shredded by fellow scientists, the BBC has reported. According to the BBC, the Harvard-led Bicep2 Collaboration claimed to have found a pattern in the sky left by the fast expansion of space, just seconds after the Big Bang.

However, the scientists, whose discovery in March at the South Pole claimed to pinpoint signals in the oldest light it is possible to observe, have been at the centre of a storm over their methods and analysis. After it published their findings in the Physical review letters, a peer-reviewed journal, they faced a barrage of criticism so strong that Prof. Clem Pryke, one of the team, said, ‘my confidence has gone down’.
