Dear Mr Cameron

Some UK churches recently handed out postcards so that their members can petition Prime Minister David Cameron to speak up for freedom of Christian conscience.
The campaign organised by Christian Concern aimed to bring Mr Cameron’s attention to four cases presented by Britons to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). According to Christian Concern, the Prime Minister needed to make statements to the court by 30 September in relation to these cases.
The four test cases, relating to two clients of the Christian Legal Centre — nurse Shirley Chaplin and counsellor Gary McFarlane — are being heard at the ECHR. They represent the struggles of many Christians who are threatened each day in their workplace because of their beliefs.
The postcards aimed to highlight the importance of making ‘a bold declaration in support of Christian freedoms’, as the outcome will have ramifications for Christian liberty across Europe.
Ms Chaplin is the nurse who was told to remove her cross, while her peers were allowed to wear their religious symbols, and Mr McFarlane is a counsellor who expressed conscientious objections to providing sex therapy to homosexual couples.
