Education – New principal for London Seminary

July 2017

The board of London Seminary has appointed Bill James, pastor of Emmanuel Church in Leamington Spa, as the next principal of the seminary. He will take up the post in January 2018.

He follows in the footsteps of current principal Robert Strivens, who is to step down from the post at the end of July 2017. David Green, vice-principal, will be acting principal in the meantime.

Mr James, who has been at Emmanuel since 1991, trained for the ministry at Toronto Baptist Seminary, and for many years has been involved in training men for various ministries, both in the UK and overseas. Before entering the ministry, he graduated from Cambridge University (in chemical engineering) and worked for five years for Glaxo Pharmaceuticals (now GSK).

Currently, Mr James teaches pastoral theology at the Seminary, as well as serving on the trust board of the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches and organising the programme for the annual Carey Conference for church leaders. He is married to Sharon, and they have two grown-up children.

Spencer Cunnah, chairman of the Seminary board, commented, ‘This new appointment is of strategic importance in training men for gospel ministry’.

Mr James said, ‘The great need of our churches is godly, spiritual leaders, who are thoroughly equipped both academically and practically for the work of ministry. Having served on the board and taught at the Seminary for a number of years, I am enthusiastic about its focus on training pastors and preachers for Free Church ministry’.
