Saturday afternoon, 13 January, was a memorable occasion for the Independent Evangelical Church at Llandudno, as it gathered to witness the induction of Martin Lloyd as minister. Rev. Lloyd was formerly assistant pastor of the Evangelical church at Rhuddlan.

Over 170 people were present, with churches from North Wales and further afield being represented. In common with other areas, Llandudno had experienced stormy weather during the preceding week, but the spirit of the congregation was one of great joy and thankfulness to God – thankfulness in particular for God’s goodness in providing a new shepherd, so soon after the retirement of previous pastor Rev. Irvon Parry on 31 December 2006. Irvon’s pastorate had extended over 28 years.

The words of welcome and introductory prayer were given by Irvon Parry. Elvert Lloyd, the new pastor’s father, read God’s Word, taking verses from Psalm 119:97-105 and 2 Timothy 3 and 4. Nicholas Richter, church elder, led in prayer and Terry Wright, church deacon, gave an interesting and encouraging account of Martin Lloyd’s call.

Martin Lloyd responded by outlining his reasons for accepting the call. This was followed by warm commendation for Martin and his wife Barbara from Pastor Phillip Collinson of Rhuddlan Evangelical Church. The induction was conducted by John Davies of Flint; Gwilym Roberts, from Caergwrle, led in prayer.

The message was brought by Chris Rogers. His charge to Martin was threefold – to love God, his Word and his people. Likewise, the church was encouraged to like their pastor, learn from him, lean on him and love him.
