Castlefields Church, Derby

Saturday 19 April was truly a ‘church family day’ at Castlefields, Derby, when the church was filled to capacity for the service of recognition of David Fielding as full-time elder and pastor.

David has worked in the insurance profession and been a regular preacher at Castlefields. Most present were from the ‘church families’ of Castlefields and Witton Chapel in Droitwich Spa (where David was previously an elder). Others who gathered were from many supporting churches.

The preacher on this happy occasion was Pastor Courtenay Harris. Taking the words of Nehemiah 6:3, ‘I am doing a great work’, he reminded everyone that the pastor’s work is ‘great’ in three areas: preaching the Word; shepherding the flock; and evangelism.

These were to be David’s primary tasks, and the church would need to support him in every way. There is always need for concerted local church evangelism; and members of Castlefields would need to be involved in the great work of bringing the gospel to the city of Derby.

David will be working alongside Peter Fry, also an elder in the church. Peter led the meeting and, with Martin Linkens (deacon), welcomed David to the pastorate.

Chris Baynham, an elder at Witton Chapel, also took part, reading the Scriptures and leading in prayer. More details: http://www.castlefieldschurch.org.uk.
