Summer Conference, Pembroke

‘I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord’ (Psalm 122:1). This was the sentiment of those who gathered for the 2009 Summer Conference in Pembroke.

The main speakers were Vernon Higham (Cardiff) and Maurice Roberts (Inverness). The week began with a Monday night gospel service, in which Hubert Clement (Tonypandy) addressed the question ‘What is the gospel?’

In his sobering first address, Vernon Higham challenged us to recognise the current absence of the felt presence of God before we can climb the ‘celestial ladder’ towards the ‘fullness of God’. In his remaining addresses he urged us to begin climbing this ladder, knowing increasing degrees of God’s presence until we reach God in glory himself.

Maurice Roberts reminded us that Christ is all as our God-Man, righteousness, propitiation and the hope of Israel. In his final address he surveyed the tremendous scope of God’s plan of redemption for both Jew and Gentile.

This year, the first gospel preaching rally in Welsh was held on the Friday afternoon. Dafydd Morris gave a heart-warming message on Zacchaeus.

The Summer Conference 2010 will be held at Tabernacle Cardiff, from 26-30 July, when Malcolm Watts (Salisbury) will speak on the First Things and Vernon Higham on a Pilgrim’s Progress. Dafydd Morris will preach at the gospel service and the two Welsh preachers will be Hywel Roberts (Southampton) and Dafydd Morris.

Conference messages are available from http://www.summerconference.org or tel. 029 20689985.
