YL looking ahead

Many from older generations will remember the ‘National Young Life Campaign’ (NYLC), but may not be aware that it still operates under the name ‘Young Life’ (or ‘YL’).

In 1911, two brothers from Cork, Frederick and Arthur Wood, started NYLC. Over the years, YL has had a passion to help young people come to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour and then disciple them. This continues today, as YL branches meet around the country for Bible studies, weekly teaching programmes, evangelistic events, open-air outreach, and more.

We can reminisce about ‘the road behind’, but as we in YL seek to share the gospel with and make disciples of today’s young people in a relevant, up-to-date way, it is also helpful to concentrate on ‘the road ahead’.

We are looking forward to celebrating 100 years of YL in 2011. This is fast approaching and plans are afoot for various events and initiatives to mark the occasion. It brings pleasure to recall the past, but our desire is to use this opportunity to strengthen YL’s work and become more effective in reaching young people.

As a forerunner to the centenary, we’re running a national friends’ and supporters’ conference with the theme ‘The road ahead’. This will be on Saturday 25 April 2009 (10am-4pm) at Glencroft Church in Leicester. We’d love you to join us for this day of ministry, information and fellowship – if you have links with NYLC from the past, support YL already, or are simply interested in finding out more about this work.

Our speakers will be Trevor Knight, national director for 25 years, and Edwin Baker, involved with YL for many years and now working full-time with the Open-Air Mission.

More information about YL and this conference can be found at Since catering is provided, booking ahead would help: mailto:[email protected] or 0844 884 8531.

May the Lord encourage us all to run with perseverance the race marked out for us, with our eyes fixed on Jesus (Hebrews 12:1-2).
