An American professor and author was banned from posting or commenting on Facebook for 24 hours, after he responded to a post by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).

The post, which showed a group of primary-aged children being taught to celebrate Gay Pride, also explained how Hollywood A-lister Jodie Foster had helped the presenter, Jessi Cruickshank, question her sexuality as a child.

However, in June, Robert A. J. Gagnon, author of The Bible and homosexual practice: texts and hermeneutics, gave a strongly worded opinion as to the underlying motives of the CBC, and expressed his dismay at young children being talked to about sexuality. This led to the ban.

In his comment, Dr Gagnon said: ‘It is a measure of how corrupt things have become that this woman is not vilified throughout Canada and legislators are not threatening to remove funding from the CBC. By the end, the woman is talking to little children about Jodie Foster helping her to question her own sexuality as a child and about [Ms] Foster’s nudity in a film’.

Christian advocacy group Christian Concern (CC) said that social media platforms have the ability to and perhaps often do restrict Christian or socially-conservative viewpoints by filtering and hiding posts, while not enforcing an outright ban.
