1545 – Resignation

November 2019

A series of letters reveals Foxe to have been ‘a man of friendly disposition and warm sympathies, deeply religious, an ardent student, zealous in making acquaintance with scholars’. However, he was forced to resign from the college as he had become a Protestant, having to abandon a promising career, which led to hard times. In 1547 he became tutor to the children of Thomas Lucy, in Stratford, but before he left there he married Agnes Randall and they had 6 children.
