Having attended the Inner Temple as a law student in 1547, John came into contact with a Christian fellow student and, through his preaching he was converted. He decided to abandon his law studies and took up theology at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge. In 1549 he was awarded his MA and in that same year was appointed to a fellowship at Pembroke College, Cambridge.
